Travel back to pre-historic Ohio with the Plain City Public Library! Visit the library on Thursday, September 28 at 7:00 PM and join Bradley Lepper, Curator of Archaeology at the Ohio Historical Society, for a fascinating discussion on The Burning Tree Mastodon and Ohio’s Ice Age. The 1989 discovery of a giant ancient elephant, called a mastodon, opened an unprecedented window into Ohio's Ice Age. Archaeologists, biologists, and geologists excavated and studied the creature's nearly complete remains (including its last meal) and other Ice Age animals and plants. Learn about pre-historic Ohio, possible reasons for the extinction of these magnificent animals, and how all of this applies to us today. This program was made possible in part by the Ohio Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. For more information, please contact the library by phone at 614-873-4912, by email, or on the web www.plaincitylib.org. |
