COVID-19 Updates from Your Library

In these trying times, we are updating and changing our services so that we can continue to enhance the quality and enjoyment of life for you, our patrons. Below is a list of services that we have added or altered to continue serving you while the library building is closed.

Appointments Available for Browsing and Computer Use

Unless either Madison or Union County reach a Level 3 Public Emergency as defined by the Ohio Public Health Advisory System, our facility is currently open by appointment only. You can make an appointment for browsing or computer use through our website or by calling the circulation desk. Please be advised of the following guidelines when visiting the library:

  • Wear a mask if you are able.

  • Follow social distancing guidelines by staying 6ft. apart from people outside your group.

  • Plan to spend less than 30 minutes inside the building.

  • Keep your children with you at all times.

  • Wash and sanitize hands often.

Curbside Services

For curbside services, we ask that you call us at (614) 873-4912 ext. 121 before coming to the library. This will give us time to prepare for your services needs, gather any supplies that we need for you, and to check out items to you so that they are ready when you arrive. Below are examples of curbside services that are available. This is not a complete list of services, so please call the library with any service needs that you have, and we will try to accommodate those needs.

Hold Pick-Up: Patrons may pick up their held materials curbside. To use this service, place your holds online or over the phone. Once you receive notification that the holds are ready, come to the library parking lot, call our circulation desk, and we will bring the items to you. Click here for a video tutorial on how to place local holds.

Faxes, Copies, and Prints may also be picked up or dropped off curbside. If you can email us a scan of your fax to send for you, we prefer that method. All prints must be sent via our mobile printing service, and you may pick them up curbside. For information on how to send a mobile print, visit our mobile printing page. For either of these services, please call before you come to the library and again once you arrive curbside.

Use Library Wi-fi in the Parking Lot on Personal Devices: We’ve worked to extend our wifi access further into the areas around the library, including the parking lot. Please feel free to use the library’s wi-fi in the parking lot on your personal devices.

Homebound Patron Delivery Program

The Plain City Public Library offers item delivery to a limited number of senior, homebound, and self-quarantining patrons. Patrons interested in this program will need to complete the Homebound Delivery Request Form or contact our Patron Services Assistant at gbennett@plaincitylib.org or 614-873-4912 ext. 130.

If a patron is accepted into the program, a monthly delivery (up to 10 items) will be delivered to the household. Each month, the library will retrieve items from the previous month and deliver new items on a recurring basis until the household requests that the service be stopped. Please contact our Public Services Librarian with questions about the program or to request deliveries.

Your Personal Librarian

We are happy to select books and other materials for our patrons during our closure due to COVID-19. We ask for 24 hours notice and a limit of 10 items per patron per pickup. Patrons can request collections for pickup as often as they like. Click here to get started.

Keeping the Facility and Materials Clean

Your health is of utmost importance to us. While want to keep providing service to the community, we also want to do as much as we can to keep the library safe and to keep you,  your family, and our staff healthy. To do so, we are attending to the following cleaning procedures:

  • Wiping down all phones, door handles, and countertops between use by staff members
  • Requiring staff members to take their temperatures before coming into their assigned shift each day
  • Decreasing the number of staff in the building at a time and maintaining a social distance between staff members in the building of at least 6ft
  • Wiping down all outgoing materials with Clorox disinfecting wipes. Incoming materials will be quarantined to preserve cleaning materials
  • Maintaining 6ft distance when providing curbside services

Cleaning Supplies Needed

We are running low on hand sanitizer, aerosol disinfect sprays, and disinfecting wipes. These items are crucial for the library to continue providing services, open or closed. We still have some left, but our supplies are dwindling, and we are on our last bottle of aerosol spray.

We use the sprays and wipes to sanitize our items for checkout as well as our public and staff technology equipment. The hand sanitizer helps staff and patrons keep their hands clean throughout the day. If you have any extra of these cleaning supplies that you can spare, please consider donating them to the library. You can drop them off M-F, between the hours of 10am-5pm. Thank you for your support!
